Today my husband graduated from Dalhousie School of Nursing.

That diploma represents four years of him balancing school with an expanding family, a wedding and also working enough to keep food on the table. It represents us putting off things like a house and a vehicle so that down the road we can have a better house and a better vehicle. It represents nights he went without sleep so that he could study but not sacrifice time with his children...or his wife.

At today's convocation ceremony the university big wigs made a point of thanking the family members and telling us how important our role was in supporting our graduates. At the reception one of Phil's profs said "You must be so pleased this is over, it's been hard for you too."
Yeah, this feeling of waiting for our real life to begin has been hard. I am relieved that he's not a student anymore and look forward to a more stable income and benefits that follow that.
But my main emotion today? Gratitude.
My husband put himself through the torture of a second degree so that he could have a good career at the end of the program for US. His wife and kids. Will he enjoy the work? Of course he will, healthcare is something he is passionate about. But his main concern is making sure his family is looked after, because for Phil...we come first.
I'm so grateful to have you in my life baby. Congratulations!
