At any rate, it was a pretty good time, the kids ran wild on the equipment, ate a good Happy Meal, Cam received some very nice presents and the cake was delicious (Bad-Mom disclaimer here: I had every intention of baking Cameron's cake myself. I was going to make a slab then cut it into the Superman symbol, then work some magic with food colouring and frosting. But we didn't get home Wednesday until 10pm, it took Grace until 11pm to settle back down...I just wasn't staying up until 1am to make a cake. There just wasn't enough time Thursday morning to do anything, so the good people at Sobey's saved my arse and made me an Incredibles Cake and he was very pleased with it. But I still have some guilt about it.)
Cam had been asking since the first commercial came out for the Superman suit that blows up. So for a few months now that's ALL we've heard about.
So we got it for him:

It is pretty freakin cool

He enjoyed the cake too, even if it wasn't homemade...

From his other grandparents he received a cheque to spend however he wanted. He has been itching to go to the Build-A-Bear workshop, so that's where he headed. I explained how much he had and what he could buy with that money. We talked about the options of buying a cheaper bear and getting clothes, or buying a more expensive bear and saving his money and coming back for clothes.
Then Grace saw the Pooh Bear on display. She got excited. And Cam offered to buy it for her, which would have taken up all of his money. I have such a great little boy. We told him thank you, but not to worry about it. Then we found a Superman suit for the bears, and even with the cheapest bear, he would have gone over his limit. So we offered to make up the difference (especially after his very generous offer to his sister).
Here he is putting the heart into his bear:

Giving him a "wash" and fluff:

Getting dressed:

After the bear was all dressed we went over to the computer station and made up a birth certificate for his bear (who has been named Clark Kent/Superman). We also made sure our address was entered into the system...there is a code in the bear so if it gets lost then someone can put it into a mailbox and Build A Bear will send it back to us (a great concept, but one that relies on a good person recognizing a build a bear stuffed friend, and not someone who thinks "Cool, a Superman Bear"). The final step was payment and getting the box and paperwork:

To be completely honest, if it had been just us paying for this, he would not have gotten it. It's a great idea, but to pay extra money to make your own bear seems a bit like a scam to me. Having gone through the process with my son, seeing what's involved...well it's still pricey but I am glad we were able to take him. We'll take Grace when she's old enough to really appreciate the concept as well. And the end result was one really happy kid:

Yeah...it's worth it.

The Boy got a buildabear when he was born from his Uncle C. It has no clothes--Uncle C. is just as Scottish and cheap as me and The Boy's Dad!
Happy birthday Cam!
Happy Birthday Cam! That is one very cool Superbear you've got there.
That suit is awesome. With a matching bear!
