Not "Mom" hair!

For a few years now I've had some issues with hair stylists. I go in and say "I need something different." I tell them "short, but not boy short" and "layered enough to give it body, but not too layered" and "for the love of God, please don't cut it so it looks just like it does now only shorter." And "I want it too short for me to be able to fall back on a ponytail."

And what I end up with is exactly what I asked her not to do, which is long enough that I can totally get it in a pony tail and exactly the way it looked when I went in but shorter. Noticeable two-tiers of layers.

And what looks like "Mom Hair". Blah, "I-don't-really-care" hair. "I-don't-have-time-to-bother" hair.

And it was really starting to get me down. I left one place managing to keep the tears back until I got home and when my husband said "Go back and make them fix it!" I wailed "No, why bother, she's not going to listen to me anyway" (which was probably true...I had given up arguing with her that just because I am a mom does not mean I need to be able to get my hair up in a ponytail. Sigh).

Friday we took Cam to get his shaggy head trimmed and I decided at the last minute that I'd give them a chance to chop my hair.

I went in, took out my freakin pony tail and described what I wanted, and my past experiences. After a few minutes she smiled at me and said "I think I see where you are coming from." And took about 5 inches off my hair.

Saturday we were out shopping and I headed down the hair colour aisle. I told Phil that I needed a serious change with my colour, I'm just sick of it. I used to dye my hair regularly, changing my look with colour as often as the mood struck. I hadn't done since I found out I was pregnant with Grace, and while I have no problem with the natural shade...I'm just tired of looking at it.

I'm very pleased with the end result

I love the cut, it's slightly shorter in the back than in the front and it disguises those bangs that grew in after Gabriel was born (apparently, getting a new hairline is a pretty common side effect of getting a baby). Mostly, I love this colour. I love how vibrant it is.

This is the boost I needed.

So, wanna know what I've been knitting?

I've finished one of my dove socks

And I'm almost done the toe of sock two

Also, I cast on a Clapotis

This one is in Gloss, Dusk colourway. And I bought lots so I should have enough, unlike my last attempt to knit one.

I'm also still plugging away on Juju and I have a couple of projects in the works that I can't blog about since they are gifts (some of them can go on Ravelry, if you're there you can spy 'em)

Alright...I have an exam tonight and I really should be studying.

Love it, love it, love it. I've been thinking about getting mine chopped off. We'll see how it goes.

Verreh nayce!!! I know what you mean about getting the opposite of what you ask for, I have the worst luck with that.

Sexy momma hair! love it. I love the look you are giving too, very "look how good I look" lol.

how are you done that sock already? Man, now I feel like a slow knitter. You're right the colour way is perfect for that pattern.

And congrats on the clap... hee hee... ( I am so 5 years old!)

Pretty schexy hair! I love shorter in the back, longer in the front (as opposed to the opposite...which is well, let's face it, a millet.)

The red is really gorgeous on you!

That color is fabulous!!! And I too understand the haircut frustration. You know that you know what you want, and they just won't listen. Glad you found somewhere/one better.

I love your hair color!!! I have wanted to experiment with hair color for a while but have never actually done it.

You just described my last appointment at the hairdresser. I totally understand. Except I also had to listen to all the hairdresser's tax problems. Fascinating. I really like your cut and I think I should go back and demand a change.
